Family serves as an anchor in the fast-moving world we live in. Family matters because it represents secure connections and unconditional love (1 Peter 4:8). The family unit is an ever-flowing source of support, loyalty and is one’s foundation. They provide continual backing, while accepting you for you are.
When I speak of family, I’m not strictly speaking of the two that birthed you. There are numerous forms of family. All that truly matters is people who consider each other family who love and support one another.
Your family can include siblings, cousins, aunts, church family, close friends, and so on.
When’s the last time you reached out to your Grandma? Or Aunt that lives in a different state?
According to the EFA Employee and Family resources, humans are social creatures who require connections with other humans in order to thrive. Social connections, such as relationships with family, friendships and closeness to community, are so closely related to well-being and personal happiness, the two can practically be equated.
“It turns out that people who are more socially connected to family, to friends, to community, are happier. They’re physically healthier and they live longer than people who are less well connected.”-Dr. Robert Waldinger
Thankfully, social media, text, email, FaceTime, and Skype makes connecting with our loved ones convenient. We can now communicate with the click of a button. Dial-up internet and long distance phone calls are long gone.
Life is too short and we are not promised tomorrow. I encourage you to stay connected. Go visit your brother, call your uncle, and connect with your church family. Spend quality time with your loved ones because family truly matters. Read 6 Fun Activities to do with Family.
After all, it’s proven to ensure the longevity of a happy and healthy life.
