In preparation for Presiding Bishop Charles Edward Blake’s 75th year, West Angeles Church of God In Christ is celebrating his life’s work as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on Friday evening, July 31, 2015 at 7 p.m.

The celebration will continue on Sunday, August 2, during the 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. services.

Commencing a special effort to pay off the church’s mortgage, Bishop Blake revealed to the congregation that he hopes “this weekend will be the beginning of the most exciting weekend in the life of West Angeles Church. We believe that God will bless us to receive the largest offering in the history of our congregation.”

By the anniversary of Bishop Blake’s 50th year in ministry, Bishop says his prayer is that West Angeles can secure its future by becoming free of all indebtedness. Bishop and First Lady Mae L. Blake have committed to downsizing their personal expenses as well. Visiting AME Bishop T. Larry Kirkland also rose to the challenge, bestowing an early gift upon West Angeles, following Erving “Magic” and Cookie Johnson’s lead.

“We’re not free until we are free of debt,” said Bishop Blake. “Turn to your neighbor and say, ‘We can do this!’”

Bishop’s sermon, “Of Your Own, We Have Given You,” can be found here, at West Angeles Gospel On Demand. Highlights from the sermon follow:

“We have the privilege of observing some of the final actions of David the King…He has been informed that his greatest ambition will not come to pass during his lifetime.”

“It’s not a pleasant thing to be deprived of your life’s ambition.”

“Some people when they are disappointed…they become resentful; they become bitter. David did not do that; and he did not retreat to some dark corner of despair. As a matter of fact, David had a very positive attitude.”

“[David] was concerned about others who would come after him.”

“It’s not an accident that you are a member of West Angeles at this critical time. You are here because the Lord has chosen you. What an honor, what a privilege to be chose by Almighty God.”

“God deserves our best, not our second best.”

“What we do for God ought to be the very best” – Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

“I get jealous for God when I go to places like Las Vegas and I see billion-dollar money-grabbing institutions…You don’t think they intend for you to win in Las Vegas, do you?”

“There are very few things that we can give directly to God. When you give to God’s work, you’re giving to God. When you give to help the poor and the needy, you’re giving to God.”

“Some people will never be blessed because they don’t have the right attitude.”

“If God sees the wrong thing in your heart, the blessings that might have come to you will go to somebody else; and I don’t know about you, but I’m determined that whatever God has for me, it ought to be for me.”

“I thank God that we have leaders at West Angeles that feel the burden just like I feel the burden. Men and women who are liberal…dedicated…who see the vision…who are willing to lead the congregation in bringing the vision to pass. Thank God for the leaders!”

“We can do this! It shall come to pass!”

What the church does is more important than what any institution in the world is doing.”

“I’m going to do everything I can so that God will fulfill His promises to my life.”

“This is the day of need; this is the time of urgency” – Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

“Since we make strenuous preparation for everything else, why should we make strenuous preparation for the things of God?”

“What if we had to pay God for all that God has done for us? Has the Lord been good to anybody?”

“Some people are so ‘heavenly,’ they are of no earthly good.”

“If God can get it through you, God can get it to you.”

“David had a heart that God could Bless. David had a life that God could Bless.”

“David set an example. And he encouraged the people to follow his example.”

“Giving is a thermometer of dedication and consecration.”

“There never is a right time; you just have to decide to do it.”

“This day is the right time. This is the day of need. This is the time of urgency.”

“I thank God that we’ve got leaders at West Angeles who feel the burden just like I feel the burden.”

“If God blessed them in that day to do that, then God can bless us in our day to do this!”

“I’ve talked about your resources, but what I’m really talking about is YOU. If God has you, God has everything you are” – Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

“God wants us to be joyous when we give…You were glad when you got it. Be glad when you give it back!”

“Everything belongs to God!”

“He made everything! He owns everything! The earth is the Lord’s!”

“When we share with the Lord, we are not giving what is ours. We’re giving Him what is already His.”

“I’ve talked about your resources, but what I’m really talking about is YOU. If God has you, God has everything you are, and everything that you have.”

“The safest place in the whole wide world is in the will of God. The safest thing you can ever say to God is ‘Yes, Lord, thy will be done.’”

“Every day He pours His blessings into my life. Every day He makes a way for me. Every day He takes me higher than I’ve gone before. Every day He gives me life so I can make it.”
