NEWS: As Governments Relax COVID-19 Restrictions, Bishop Blake Urges Restraint

The Church of God in Christ, in its most recent official letter regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, “has adamantly expressed that the health, safety, and well-being of the entire denomination, in the United States and abroad, is of the utmost importance.”

COGIC’s Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr. states in his April 23, 2020 letter to denomination, “The Church of God in Christ has and will continue to support local and federal guidelines in regards to COVID-19. As such,” Bishop continues, “we will also continue to communicate these directives with our entire denomination.”

USE WISDOM AND RESTRAINT

The Church of God in Christ has issued directives which are in conjunction with the collective wisdom and recommendations of local and federal government leaders as well as scientific experts.  COGIC leadership has communicated directly with pastors and church leaders, encouraging all to abide by the directives and stay-at-home guidelines set by city, state, and federal officials.  In addition to cancelling meetings and conventions and issuing numerous written and video statements to COGIC pastors and leaders which address COVID-19:

However, even as those stay-at-home orders are being relaxed this weekend in various cities and states across the country, Bishop Blake urges us to use caution and restraint. “The Church of God in Christ remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of people over the economy. We urge our pastors, local and state government leaders to exercise restraint in moving too quickly and too drastically. Further, we strongly encourage church leaders and government officials to please consider the learned opinion of scientific experts as decisions are made.”

“We will progress towards a level of normalcy,” said Bishop Blake. “In the meantime, we must all pray, use wisdom, and stand together to weather this storm.”
